Home Educators Programme

We run several Home Educator programmes throughout the year, suitable for children aged 3-16 years.

KS4 Biology

  • 1st Monday of the month, 10AM – 12PM
  • For children aged 11+
  • £12.50 per student per session

Please do not book if your child is younger than 11 on the date of the session.

We cover the practical aspects of the KS4 Biology curriculum, though some theory is required. We will be using relevant equipment for these sessions, such as scalpels, and a variety of chemicals and we expect the students to behave responsibly.

We allow parents/guardians to sit in on these sessions but ask that they abide by the same rules as the students and allow the students to do the work themselves. All equipment and materials are provided for these sessions. Places are limited.

KS4 Chemistry

  • 3rd Monday of the month, 1PM – 3PM
  • For children aged 11+
  • £12.50 per student  per session

Please do not book if your child is younger than 11 on the date of the session.

We cover the practical aspects of the KS4 Chemistry curriculum, though some theory is required. We will use relevant equipment for these sessions, such as Bunsen burners and a variety of chemicals, and we expect the students participating to be able to behave responsibly.

We allow parents/guardians to sit in on these sessions but ask they abide by the same rules as the students and allow the students to do the work themselves. All equipment and materials will be provided for these sessions. Places are limited.

KS4 Maths

  • 1st, 3rd, and 4th Monday of the month, 10AM – 12PM
  • For children aged 11+
  • £10.50 per child per session

Please do not book if your child is younger than 11 on the date of the session.

These theory content sessions cover higher-level maths and are for students who already have a good understanding of maths and wish for some additional opportunities to explore the subject further or prepare for GCSE exams.

We allow parents/guardians to sit in on these sessions but ask they abide by the same rules as the students and allow students to do the work themselves.

Equipment and materials will be provided for these sessions, however, we do recommend that you come equipped with your own scientific calculator. Places are limited.

Full-On STEM Day

  • Once per month (please enquire for details), 10AM – 3PM
  • For children aged 7 – 11 years old
  • £16.50 per child per session

Each session focuses on a theme and we provide two activities and one science show, plus a Mars Yard talk and time to play with the exhibits.

For these sessions, we allow you to drop children off and collect them at the end of the day. You may still join the session, but we ask that parents/guardians abide by the same rules we set for the children. You will need to provide packed lunches, drinks and snacks for your child.

Full-on Teens STEM Day

  • 2nd Monday of the month, 10AM – 3PM
  • For children aged 11+
  • £20.40 per student per session

Please do not book if your child is younger than 11 years old on the date of the session.

Each all-day session has a different theme, which will be announced in advance. Previous sessions have focused on creating Rube Goldberg Machines, Waterbomb Launchers, Lego Mindstorm Robotics and STEM-ger Games (STEM team challenges).

For these sessions, we allow you to drop children off and collect them at the end of the day. You may still join the session, should you wish to, but we ask that parents/guardians abide by the same rules we set for the children. You will need to provide packed lunches, drinks and snacks for your child.

EYFS / Early Years STEM

  • 4th Monday of the month, 10AM – 12PM
  • For children up to 7 years old
  • £10 per child per session

In each session, we investigate aspects of a different theme, introduce new vocabulary and concepts, use scientific equipment for activities, and round off with time for exploration in our interactive exhibits area.

Parents/guardians must stay to support their child during these sessions. We provide disposable gloves and aprons, as required, but we warn you: the best science is messy science!

These sessions are hugely popular, so please only book if you know you can attend.

Friday STEM Sessions

  • Every Friday (5 week course), 10AM – 12PM or 1PM – 3PM
  • For children aged 7 – 11 years old
  • £42.50 for a block of 5

We run a different theme every half-term, offering five weeks of STEM-based hands-on activities specifically exploring that theme. We run two identical sessions on each of the dates provided so you can book to join the morning session (10am – 12pm) or the afternoon session (1pm – 3pm).

Places are limited.

STEAMing Teens

  • Every Friday (5 week course), 10AM – 12PM or 1PM – 3PM
  • For students aged 11+
  • £58 per student per block of 5

Please do not book if your child is younger than 11 years old on the date of the session.

For these sessions, we run either 5 per half term (with a different theme each half term), or a whole term of the same theme (usually 10 sessions per term) and these sessions generally provide an award of some sort at the end. Previous awards have included Industrial Cadets and CREST.

We run 2 identical sessions on each of the dates provided, so you can choose to book either the morning session (10am – 12p) or the afternoon session (1pm – 3pm). The content contributes to GCSE-level learning and supports the development of STEM skills and knowledge at that level.
