Home Educators Programme

We run several Home Educator programmes throughout the year, suitable for children aged 3-16 years.

GCSE Biology

  • 1st & 3rd Monday of the Month
  • 10AM – 12PM
  • £10 per student  per session

These sessions are suitable for children 11 years+. We cover the practical aspects of GCSE Biology curriculum, though some theory is required. We do allow parents to sit in on these sessions, but ask that they allow the students to do the work themselves. All equipment and materials are provided for these sessions.

For these sessions we also offer live stream and videos, however we cannot provide equipment or materials for use at home.

  • 2nd Monday of the Month
  • 10AM – 12PM
  • £10 per student  per session

These sessions are suitable for children 11 – 15 years. We run these sessions with a “club” type element to them. Sessions start with a fun, team building icebreaker, to help participants get to know each other and support the development of soft skills that are so important within the workplace.

We encourage participants to suggest what STEM subjects or activities they would like to cover and then do our best to provide sessions that at least include the most popular suggestions. In the past, we have set off paint rockets, programmed Lego Mindstorms, made stop motion animations and designed and printed our own 3D creations.

Early Years STEM

  • 4th Monday of the Month
  • 10AM – 12PM
  • £7.50 per child per session

Our Early Years sessions are for children up to the age of 7 years old. Each session we investigate aspects of a different theme, introducing new vocabulary and concepts and allowing the children to participate in activities using scientific equipment and allowing time for exploration. We also allow time for some use of our interactive exhibits.

We must ask parents to stay to support during these sessions.

Friday STEM Sessions

  • Every Friday
  • 10AM – 12PM or 1PM – 3PM
  • £8.50 per child per session

These sessions are best suited for children aged 7-11 years. We run a different theme every week, offering STEM-based, hands-on activities, specifically exploring that theme.

Additional Information

  • We currently only accept contactless payments.
  • We will be following the government guidance for schools; sanitation stations in each room and social distancing. With these in place face masks are not essential, but you are welcome to wear them if that makes you feel comfortable. We will also have disposable PPE (gloves, facemasks) available to buy from our front desk, should you require.
  • For our Early Years, Mars Challenge and Friday STEM sessions, we ask that an adult accompany children throughout the session. As we cannot support multiple individuals and ensure that social distance is maintained.
    • To reduce the opportunity for transfer, we will be opening the doors to the facility no sooner than the beginning of each session (ie 10am or 1pm).
    • We will be cleaning the exhibits and withdrawing those that we cannot clean between sessions, to reduce contact where we can, so we are limiting the time available within the exhibit space.
    • We will ask you to leave the building promptly after our sessions as we will need to undertake cleaning during the time between sessions, in order to ensure safety for all.
